GUELPH PROGRAMSPilates and Therapeutic Exercise
Pilates is a gentle and effective way to correct postural imbalances and improper muscle recruitment using a specific combination of mat and equipment exercises that is unique to each client's structural blueprint. Pilates is a rehabilitative practice developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s as a means to improve his own health after years of illness as a child; then used with patients in World War II who were bed-ridden and unable to perform the traditional weight-bearing exercises prescribed by Physicians. Since that time, Pilates has earned respect among rehabilitative practitioners worldwide, and has a basis in most Physiotherapy exercises prescribed today. This practice has gained increasing popularity in the mainstream over the past 20 years as an unrefuted approach to eliminating pain and increasing overall fitness without the stigma of the gym environment.
Individual Pilates & Therapeutic Exercise SessionsRe/Active's Pilates and Therapeutic Exercise programs are developed specifically for each client's needs and goals after a thorough individual movement assessment and interview. The objective is to complement the client's lifestyle, and begin to develop awareness of their own body and how it moves in everyday life. Each session is 60-minutes in length, and concentrates on mobilizing tight muscles and joints, and building strength and stability for optimal functioning and performance in life and in sport. Programs include a combination of dynamic mat exercises using various small equipment, and more challenging appartus exercises using the Pilates Reformer and Combo Chair.
